Joe came to the Gibbs lab in early 2020 with an MS in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems, and a BS in Conservation Biology and Geography, all from UW – Madison. Prior to joining the Gibbs Land Use and Environment Lab, Joe spent time as a GIS Technician for the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services where he worked on spatial data creation and improving geocoding methods. While at UW – Madison he researched human mobility at the Geospatial Data Science Lab, focusing on spatial network analysis. Since then he has been working on new data acquisition and data pipeline improvement to integrate key datasets into the research database. Outside of work Joe spends his time mountain biking and cross-country skiing if he isn’t inside reading or trying out a new recipe. He also enjoys wildlife photography and the occasional backpacking trip.
